We believe finance knowledge should be accessible
Started in 2019, meliontrava emerged from a simple observation—most people feel overwhelmed by financial decisions because the information out there is either too technical or too simplified. We wanted to bridge that gap.
Our story began with conversations
Six years ago, our founder Jasper Threlkeld was working as a financial analyst and kept hearing the same frustration from friends and family. They wanted to understand money better but felt alienated by the jargon and condescension they encountered elsewhere.
So we built meliontrava. Not as another financial advice platform, but as a place where real education happens. Where someone can learn about budgeting, investments, or property without feeling like they're reading a textbook or being sold something.
Today, we work with educators across Australia who share that same belief—finance isn't mysterious, and everyone deserves clear information that respects their intelligence.
What guides us
Clarity first
We strip away the complexity. If something can be explained in plain language, that's how we do it. Because understanding shouldn't require a finance degree.
Independence matters
We're not here to sell products or push partnerships. Our recommendations come from education, not commissions. That independence is something we guard carefully.
Real-world focus
Theory has its place, but we care more about practical application. What can you actually use tomorrow? That's what we prioritize in every course and article.
Meet our founder
meliontrava is still a small team, which honestly works for us. We can stay focused on quality and respond quickly when our learners need something different.
Jasper Threlkeld
Founder and Lead Educator
Before starting meliontrava, Jasper spent eight years in corporate finance and realized he was better at explaining concepts than enjoying the boardroom politics. He holds a degree in commerce from Queensland University but jokes that most of what he teaches came from mistakes made after graduation.
He lives in northern NSW with two rescue dogs and spends weekends either surfing or tinkering with the learning platform backend—usually the latter, much to his frustration.
How we approach education

Start where you are
We don't assume everyone starts from the same place. Some people come to us knowing nothing about superannuation. Others want advanced investment strategies. Both are welcome, and both get content that meets them exactly where they're at.
Learn by doing
Reading about budgeting isn't the same as building one. Our programs include practical exercises and worksheets you can apply immediately. We'd rather you finish a course with something useful than just another certificate.
Stay current
Tax laws change. Investment products evolve. We update our content regularly so you're not learning outdated information. It's extra work for us, but it matters for accuracy.
